COACHING PHILOSOPHY
I believe a coach can be a very positive influence in a young person's life. I stress teamwork, responsibility, respect, discipline, and a strong work ethic. Each player on the team is an essential part of the team and is my responsibility to nurture this in order to build a strong team.
GOALS
-
LET THE KIDS HAVE FUN! Win/loss records are not as important to the athletes and parents as is having an enjoyable experience is. If they enjoy it, they will work hard and want to come to practice and games. This does not mean we will let everyone goof off. Nobody likes to lose and it's not fun when you do. We learn from the loss and become better for it.
-
DEVELOP A SENSE OF RESPONSIBILITY AND TEAMWORK WITHIN THE TEAM. this is a wonderful life lesson that the children need to be taught at a young age. The coaches and I will tell the players to take the responsibility for being at practice/games on time and ensuring they have all their gear. Teamwork is critical to support teammates and learn to work together as a unit. Therefore, we must support our teammates and help everyone become strong and become more capable players.
-
MAKE FRIENDS. I encourage bonding between players, coaches and families.
-
DEVELOP FOOTBALL CONCEPTS AND SKILLS. While most players on the team have been playing for a longer time than others, we will be working on some basic concepts and rules. The players will need to learn the difference between offense and defense, the different positions and their responsibilities, and teamwork and how to play the game.
EXPECTATIONS FOR PLAYERS
-
HAVE FUN!!!
-
Come to practice and games on time, with all your equipment, and be prepared to practice.
-
Support your teammates. Some kids are more skilled and developed than others. Stronger and older players should encourage younger players and help them improve.
-
Respect your coaches. Sometimes, a coach might tell you something you don't like. However, put the team ahead of yourself. Disruptive or disrespectful behavior is not acceptable.
-
Respect the other team. Cheering when the other team makes a mistake is sportsmanship. Cheering when the other team makes a great play is good.
-
TRY YOUR HARDEST. Everyone can't be the main player If you are in a position you don't like, do your best because the team is counting on you. Think of the team first and how you can help us win and have fun.
EXPECTATIONS FOR THE PARENTS
-
HAVE FUN!!!
-
Have realistic expectations for your child. Not all Players are going to be the offensive player. You might disagree with where your child is playing. Our job is to place a child where the coaching staff feels he can best succeed and help the team as well as learn and have fun.
-
SUPPORT YOUR KIDS AND THE TEAM. CHEER THEM ON AND HAVE A GOOD TIME.
-
DON'T BE LATE. Make sure your player arrives to practices and games on time. Make sure you have your equipment and your child before you leave the house (SEE Equipment below)
-
LET THE COACHES COACH. There is nothing more confusing to a child than to have his coach tell him one thing and his parent tell him another. This is your time to sit back and be a cheerleader for the team and your child. If you want to coach let me know.
-
Support the staff. We are going to be together for the entire season and quite possibly several years. We are all working toward the same goal.
-
If you have an issue that you would like to discuss with me or any of the coaches, please do it before or after practice in a private setting. Taking up an issue with us before or after a game is never appropriate. Neither is airing issues out over social media. It is my experience that nothing productive comes from it.
-
The team's success is determined by the involvement of everyone to make our kid’s experience a positive one
-
We promote a fun and nurturing environment and expect to have a great group of parents this year. I’m sure you’ll agree that ANY VIOLENCE, THREATS OF VIOLENCE, INTIMIDATION, OR ANY OTHER THREATENING BEHAVIOR toward any member of the coaching staff or team will not be tolerated in any form. Such occurrences are grounds for immediate dismissal from the program. There are no second chances. This policy is extended any adult associated with a player on the team.
WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT FROM THE COACHING STAFF
-
We will have fun!!!
-
We will treat your child with fairness, love and respect.
-
We will arrive to games and practices on time and be prepared to coach.
-
We will never degrade your child.
-
We will constructively correct behavior that we feel is inappropriate.
-
We will praise good hard play.
-
We will not allow players to pick on their teammates.
-
We will not use profanity.
-
We will teach basic skills and concepts and not emphasize the need to win at all costs. However, we will teach that it's better to win through hard work.
-
We will keep you informed about all issues as soon as we are given the information from the league and try to keep all social media and TeamSnap updated.
-
The head coach has final say on all team matters!
PLAYING TIME / POSITION ASSIGNMENTS
Playing time can sometime be issue with players/parents. The Avengers are a competitive travel program and while playing time is never guaranteed, we try our hardest to give all players a chance to participate in tournaments.
Positions are assigned by the coaches and are selected based on what’s best for the team and not the athlete.
